Loss and theft of your payment card

In the event of loss or theft of your payment card, we recommend that you immediately block the payment card (so-called stoplisting). By doing so, you prevent misuse of your card.

Stoplisting of a payment card

In order to stoplist a payment card, please immediately inform the nonstop KB Client hotline or visit any branch  of KB in person:

  • by telephone +420 955 512 230

If you cannot report loss or theft in person (e.g. due to hospitalisation or similar), another person may do so for you (e.g. wife, co-worker or similar).

If you are abroad, you can contact any branch of a bank which is a member of the internal VISA or MasterCard association. In an emergency, you can also use  the international centres of the card associations to report your loss:

If you do not refuse issue of a new payment card when submitting your request for inclusion of the card on the Stoplist, you will automatically be issued with a new card and new PIN, which will have the validity of the original card, including identification cards for additional services.

KB is liable for all damage arising from a lost, stolen or misused payment card from the moment of notification of its loss, theft or misuse (with the exception of cases when the client acted in a fraudulent manner). In the case of unauthorised transactions, the client (Qualified client*) is liable for loss up to the level of EUR 150 until the moment of notification of loss, theft or misuse.

Merlin / ProfiMerlin insurance covering misuse of a payment card

This insurance can be arranged at any branch of KB, or by telephone using Expresní linka telephone banking on 955 559 559. The insurance covers all payment cards issued in the name of the insured party in as well as any other cards issued in the name of the insured party by another banking  institution than KB which operates within the Czech Republic.

Insurance covers:

  • financial loss as a result of unauthorised card payments, unauthorised withdrawal using the payment card at a branch of KB or from KB ATMs or withdrawal using the payment card at branches of banks or from ATMs of other banks
  • theft of cash
  • financial loss caused by loss or theft of personal keys
  • financial loss caused by loss or theft of personal documents
  • mobile telephone insurance

The insurance company will reimburse you for financial loss incurred. Entitlement to an insurance payment is created for damage caused at any time before the card is blocked (so-called stoplisting).

Help for the card holder in emergency situations abroad (Emergency Service)

The following services are provided by the card associations for holders of embossed VISA or MasterCard payment cards for the event of loss, theft and damage to a payment card (Emergency Service):

  • stoplisting/blocking of the payment card
  • issue of a replacement payment card (Emergency Card Replacement) with maximum validity period of up to 2 months
  • issue of emergency cash (Emergency Cash) up to the level of the current balance in your account (max. equivalent of USD 3,000) via the nearest foreign bank – member of the MasterCard or VISA banking association.

The replacement payment card cannot be used for withdrawal of cash from an ATM. If you do not collect the replacement card within 2 days, it will be destroyed. Costs for issuing the card will however be debited from your account.
